Crazy Coupons

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

I did some food shopping recently, and the cash register spit out a coupon for soy milk. I wasn’t buying any, but I do use soy milk, so that seemed like a good one!

Then I read it closely. I can get $1.50 off if I am buying THREE one-gallon soy milks. Three? One-gallon? Holy cats, that’s a lot of soy milk. I typically can’t even make it through a gallon; it goes bad before I’m done with it, and it takes like a month to go bad. This coupon was for a brand I don’t typically buy, but have had and am not against buying again.

This was an odd coupon compared to another one I got. 75 cents off anything with the Scotch Brite name on it. That’s useful! I can buy a $1.29 sponge and get 75 cents off.

Are you sure your coupon is enticing people to buy more? I threw the $1.50 soy milk coupon away and will keep buying my current brand at its current price.

Is There A Draft?

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

This is from Fashion Week in Portugal in March. Sorry if any of you are offended by breasts, but man oh man!

What is the right occasion to wear this one? Funeral? High school reunion? Job interview? Lunch with the gals? Annual eBay convention?

Are the breasts considered an accessory?

Good thing it has long sleeves and the turtle neck. It may be breezy out there, and you wouldn’t want to be chilly.

I’m afraid to find out what the back looks like.

Really Bad Emoticons

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

I love Skype. I can’t say how much I love Skype. It’s just the best app to come along in a long time. Easy to use, great features, great quality. Can’t say enough.

However, it has one flaw. It has animated emoticons that range from normal to weird to "what the **** is THAT?" Do not read on if you are offended by language that mentions a sexual act.

My sister and I were on Skype when I asked her if she’d seen some of the odd emoticons. I dropped ‘dance’ in and then ‘ninja.’ She dropped in ‘muscle,’ which is a disembodied arm wearing a wrist cuff, making a bicep pumping motion. She had NO idea what it was. She declared that it was a tapeworm wearing a choker collar and giving itself head.

Their animated face for the smiley that sticks out its tongue is also quite odd. 😛 The face doesn’t just stick out its tongue… it seems to be happily licking. My sister declared it awful.

Maybe Skype is happy with the buzz on these crazy emoticons. If not, they may want to shoot for something else!

Fantastic Dressmaker

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

After my sister announced her engagement last year, she sent me some websites for dresses I might like to wear. A lot of it seemed to be couture or something… just too fancy for me. I could have worn that stuff, but it wasn’t me. I really wanted something that would be ME.

She’s not sure how she got this link, but she ended up sending me to Katrina Marie Designs. This woman, a few hours north of NYC, makes dresses that for lack of a better word are inspired by Renaissance, Gothic, and Victorian styles. Oh, I thought this was VERY me.

I went around the site and found the dress I wanted. I was going into NY anyway, so we made an appointment with her. You don’t have to since she has a size chart on her site… you could just order. But I tried them on and got measured, and was still in love with that dress. So I had it made in that colour.

I just got it this past week, and it’s fantastic. I think the funniest thing about it is that it’s permanent press. I asked Katrina if it needs to be dry cleaned. "No, just throw it in the washing machine." Oh this is great. :) This is me!

Katrina’s personality also reminded me of me… just say whatever you’re thinking and be right out there. So of course I liked her! But outside of that, she’s extremely talented and I love her work. I was tickled by everything she had at her shop.

If you are looking for an interesting dress that will be surprisingly affordable, you must check her out.
